Glee spin-off in the works!

"Glee" creator Ryan Murphy gave us all a shock when he announced three of our favourite characters would be leaving the show at the end of season three. Turns out there's even more to the story behind Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and Cory Monteith being axed from "Glee"...

Ryan told Deadline that he'd been working on a spin-off show that would follow the three characters after graduation. He had consulted Lea, Chris and Cory about his plans in March.

The executive producer wanted to check if they would be willing to get involved and also wanted their input on their characters' development and in which city it should be set. He says all three of the actors thought it was a good idea and they spent the next few months discussing the new series and even making plans to film at Juilliard in New York City.

When some of the stars reacted with apparent surprise to the public announcement about their departure from "Glee", Ryan decided to put the new show on hold.

When he saw the actors were saying they'd found out they were "fired from Twitter" he was not happy: "All of us, the studio, the network, were like, 'OK, that isn't exactly cool,' because we involved all three of them in that decision. So then what happened is that we decided, 'OK, let's not do it.'"

Ryan does see that Chris Colfer might have made certain comments because he felt like he was in a difficult position with everyone saying he'd been fired, as they'd told the trio they weren't allowed to talk about the spin-off yet.

He adds that they might talk about it again in April, but for now the focus will be on season three of "Glee".
